I decided to republish this post as I am hoping it will reach more people now and it has some really useful free info for you to download which I hope you will find interesting.

There is so much misinformation and confusion over what we should be eating to help with Menopause symptoms and to generally stay healthy as we age. There is also alot of discussion about “balancing hormones ” which I think can be unnecessarily confusing and a little mysterious! But suppose you think about keeping your body generally healthy by eating the right foods at the right times, doing the right kind of exercise at the right time, sleeping well and managing your stress levels. In that case, your hormones will naturally be in the correct balance.

I am hoping to try to simplify things in this blog. But I do want to stress that our bodies are unique and we each react differently to what we eat depending on many factors.

So if you are trying to lose weight and nothing is working, or you are generally feeling low and lacking in enerergy, I would urge you to invest some time and money in working with someone who can guide you, and help you tailor a plan suited to your unique nutritional needs and requirements- it can be life changing, I am living proof of this. I’m not sure where I would be now if I had not taken the decision to work with Dr Wendy Sweet (Phd) on her 12 week program.

I thought long and hard about spending the money (even though I was earning well at that stage) I felt guilty about spending money on myself. But I would pay 3 times over knowing what I know now- it literally changed my future health and changed the course of my life by giving me back my hope and my confidence.

We’ve all heard that the ‘Mediterranean Diet’ is healthy, but I wanted to strip this back to some very simple rules to follow so I have created a simple free guide to share with you.

I have also created a list of anti-inflammatory foods which are high in anti-oxidants (these two things go hand in hand because a lot of inflammation is caused by oxidative stress and ant-oxidants help to reduce this). They contain phytochemicals – plant chemicals which plants use to defend themselves from pests and diseases, our bodies can also use them to improve our immune systems. The list is by no means exhaustive and there are many other foods which have fantastic healing properties, but this is a great place to start when stocking up your fridge and your store cupboards.

In terms of exercise, this will very much depend on how fit you currently are, how much extra weight you are carrying and whether you are sleeping well. If you are not sleeping then your body may struggle to recover from more intense forms of exercise and I would urge you to work on your sleep before embarking on any new exercise regime that may make your symptoms worse. A great way to start for everyone, no matter how fit you are, or what age you are, is getting out for a 30 min walk in the early morning as this will reset your circadian rhythm and will give you the perfect type of aerobic exercise to help you burn fat without subjecting your body to intense exercise which you may not be ready for. I have several blogs which deep dive into sleep and exercise as well as managing stress, which you may find useful and will explain more about how all the things I have talked about in this blog actually work to balance your hormones if you are a bit of a science geek like me and like to understand how things work!
