Wholesome porridge bowl

Recipe:

Porridge is a great way to start the day, it will keep you full for longer than having cereal containing a lot of sugar.

Did you know that cinnamon helps to balance blood sugar by imitating insulin and helping to move glucose out of your blood stream and into your cells.

You can add a whole variety of ingredients to make it really tasty and to suit your own tastes .

Here are some of my suggestions :

You will need:

40g Jumbo whole rolled oats ( Organic if possible ) per person

160 ml Semi skimmed or whole organic milk ( you can also make it with water if you prefer )

A handful of nuts ( I like almonds , walnuts , hazelnuts and Brazil nuts )

Fresh blueberries

1 Tsp of Cinnamon

1 Tsp Honey

1 pinch Sea salt

Method:

-Place the oats and water or milk in a small pan or a porringer (a pan suspended over another pan with boiling water a bit like a bain marie)

-Gently heat the porridge stirring until the mixture thickens and the oats are losing their texture.

-You can also make porridge in the microwave in a bowl.

-Add salt

-Serve in a bowl and add the honey, cinnamon and nuts & Berries.

You could also add seeds such as pumpkin and sunflower , grated coconut and other types of fruit depending on how you feel and what your body says  you need on that day.

You can also make overnight porridge , hydrate the oats with Yoghurt and add berries , nuts , seeds and porridge , leave in the fridge overnight ready for the next morning . add cinnamon and whatever else you fancy .

This is my Porringer, I love it! There’s nothing like a warming bowl of porridge to start you off on a cold morning.
